چکیده

Mobile manipulator performance measurement research is relatively minimal as compared to that of robot arms. Measurement methods, such as optical tracking systems, are useful for measuring the performance of mobile manipulators, although at a much higher relative cost as compared to artifacts. The concept of using test artifacts demonstrates to potential manufacturers and users of mobile manipulator systems that relatively low cost performance measurement methods exist. This paper discusses the concept of reconfigurable mobile manipulator artifacts that were designed and built. An artifact was then used through experimentation to measure the performance of a mobile manipulator to demonstrate the feasibility of the test method. Experimental results show a promising test method to measure the performance of mobile manipulators that are to be used for manufacturing assembly tasks, where at least the mobile manipulator tested has the capability to perform assembly to 1 mm positional accu-

An autonomous mobile manipulator for assembly tasks

The fundamental difference between autonomous robotic assembly and traditional hard automation, currently utilized in large-scale manufacturing production, lies in the specific approaches used in locating, acquiring, manipulating, aligning, and assembling parts. An autonomous robotic assembly manipulator offers high flexibility and high capability to deal with the inherent system uncertainties,...

Performance Measurement of Mobile Manipulators

This paper describes a concept for measuring the reproducible performance of mobile manipulators to be used for assembly or other similar tasks. An automatic guided vehicle with an onboard robot arm was programmed to repeatedly move to and stop at a novel, reconfigurable mobile manipulator artifact (RMMA), sense the RMMA, and detect targets on the RMMA. The manipulator moved a laser retroreflec...

An easily reconfigurable robotic assembly system

In this paper, a flexible robotic assembly system with decentralized architecture is presented. The system is designed to achieve high reconfigurability so that it can adapt to changes in manufacturing environment; a new robot can be easily installed to the system and execute assembly tasks immediately, together with other devices. For easier reconfiguration, a semi-automated calibration method...

Towards Autonomous Robotic In-Situ Assembly on Unstructured Construction Sites Using Monocular Vision

Unlike robotics in the manufacturing industry, on-site construction robotics has to consider and address two unique challenges: 1) the rugged, evolving, and unstructured environment of typical work sites; 2) the reversed spatial relationship between the product and the manipulator, i.e. the manipulator has to travel to and localize itself at the work face, rather than a partially complete produ...
